Giant puppets and paper lanterns lit up the Wellington waterfront in August in a special illuminated parade marking 125 years of women’s rights in Aotearoa. The New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO supported the Rangiwahia Environmental Arts Centre Trust (REACT) to stage the ‘Big Girls’ parade, as well as an exhibition at Wellington Museum.

Māori drawings from the Grey New Zealand Māori Manuscripts Collection will feature in the Royal Academy of London’s Oceania exhibition, marking 250 years since Captain Cook’s first voyage to the Pacific.

For the third year running, the Manukau Beautification Charitable Trust ran the Tiaki programme, which partners South Auckland schools with local businesses to carry out unique environmental innovation projects aimed at enhancing their local area. Waitaki Whitestone has chalked up another milestone in its bid for UNESCO Global Geoparks status. Drivers behind the aspiring geopark hosted our Chair Robyn Baker along with two New Zealand UNESCO Global Geoparks Expert Advisory Panel members: Natural Sciences Commissioner Dr Geoff Hicks and Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research Māori development general manager Holden Hohaia.
