Waitaki Whitestone has chalked up another milestone in its bid for UNESCO Global Geoparks status. Drivers behind the aspiring geopark hosted our Chair Robyn Baker along with two New Zealand UNESCO Global Geoparks Expert Advisory Panel members: Natural Sciences Commissioner Dr Geoff Hicks and Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research Māori development general manager Holden Hohaia.
The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples was first pronounced by the General Assembly of the United Nations in December 1994 marking the day of the first meeting of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations of the Sub-commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in 1982. 2018's theme is indigenous peoples’ migration and movement.
Our UNESCO Aotearoa Youth Leaders ran a stand at the Festival for the Future event in Wellington from 27-29 July. The Festival for the Future showcases youth-led innovation. It brings together a diverse range of emerging leaders to connect, showcase what’s possible and create the future.
