We worked with the Kaipatiki Project on two incredible events in June 2023 — the UNESCO Aotearoa Titiwai Glow Worm Walk and UNESCO Aotearoa Plant 500 Trees.
The events brought the community together to learn about Titiwai and their importance within our eco-system, as well as to plant 500 native trees in the grounds of Eskdale Reserve in Auckland.
Linda Faulkner, our Natural Sciences Commissioner, spoke at the start of the tree planting about the power of our communities and the role that communities play in enabling a sustainable future for all.
“We firmly believe that achieving sustainable development requires the active involvement of communities because our communities hold a wealth of knowledge, wisdom, traditions and practices that have been passed down through generations. These practices often embody sustainable approaches that are harmonious with the local environment and culture.”
