More than 180 delegates from around the globe took part in lively scientific discourse about all things Crustacean at the 10th International Crustacean Congress (ICC), a week-long event which took place at Te Papa, Wellington in May 2023.
It attracted carcinologists from 24 countries. Carcinologists study the world of crustacea, which are a group of arthropods that include lobster, crayfish, shrimp, and krill.
The event, which had never been held in Aotearoa New Zealand before, comprised three keynote speakers, 13 workshops, 142 talks and 41 posters and was an officially listed UN Ocean Decade activity.
The Ocean Decade endorsed the ICC due to a special session on the first day of the Congress entitled ‘UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development: crustaceans helping us work together' which was hosted by the NZ National Commission.
