National Commission Chair Robyn Baker has been visiting UNESCO headquarters in Paris this month (May 2019).
The main purpose of her trip is to begin to prepare New Zealand’s approach to engagement at the General Conference in November and to talk with UNESCO leaders about current and emerging issues that are likely to be a focus at the conference.
Robyn has been working with the New Zealand permanent delegation in Paris, identifying priorities for engagement with UNESCO.
During the week they canvassed a range of important topics with UNESCO leaders, including the Christchurch Call and the current and planned work of UNESCO in the overall area of promoting knowledge societies, freedom of expression and building peace through dialogue and collaborative activities.
