UN International Holocaust Remembrance Day was celebrated world-wide on January 27th.
The date marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau by Soviet troops on 27 January 1945.
The day was commemorated by a number of ceremonies across Aotearoa New Zealand, organised by the Holocaust Centre of New Zealand.
Vicki Soanes, NZ National Commission for UNESCO, General Secretary was privileged to be asked to speak at the Wellington event, which took place at Parliament and was hosted by the Hon Grant Robertson.
Among those in attendance were Holocaust victims and their descendants.
