Nominations for the First Edition of the UNESCO Prize for Global Citizenship Education are now open.
The Prize, supported by the Republic of Korea, will reward outstanding initiatives that promote Global Citizenship Education through two categories:
An international jury will select two best projects, one per category. Each prize winner will be awarded 50,000 USD.
Global Citizenship Education (GCED) has a critical role to play in transforming education to help address global challenges – such as escalating violence and conflict, worsening effects of climate change, and increasing discrimination and hate speech – and can help create more just healthy and peaceful societies.
GCED helps support learners of all ages to become ethical, empathetic and respectful human beings who can adapt to the world rapidly moving forward, even amidst its most complex challenges and threats.
Applying GCED means bringing multiple stakeholders together from various levels and types of education, formal and informal, to help ensure that every learner can receive an education that:
Through this Prize for Global Citizenship Education, UNESCO promotes outstanding efforts in this area across the world.
The New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO can endorse up to three projects and has implemented a selection process.
For those interested in applying for the UNESCO Prize for Global Citizenship Education, expressions of interest can be sent to the New Zealand National Commission by email: UNESCO.NZ@education.govt.nz.
We will then send you a form to complete for National Commission review by Friday 1 August, 5pm.
