In 2022 the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development – MONDIACULT 2022 took place in Mexico City.
A strong Pacific voice resonated at the conference which aimed to shape a more robust and resilient cultural sector, fully anchored in the perspectives of sustainable development as well as promotion of solidarity, peace and security.
This video captures the interventions of the eight Pacific countries that contributed to Mondiacult. The interventions covered all four thematic areas of the Conference:
• Renewed and Strengthened Cultural Policies,
• Heritage and Cultural Diversity in Crisis,
• Culture for Sustainable Development and
• The Future of Creative Economy.
It concludes with the Pacific countries joint closing statement - affirming that culture is valued by the People of the Pacific, as it forms the backbone of our societies and remains a source of resilience and social cohesion.
The Statement makes special reference to the effects of climate change, and highlights that our cultures are inherently based on ecological relationships and that biodiversity holds aesthetic and spiritual value for our communities.
