Read our Communication and Information Commissioner’s contribution to a panel discussion on ensuring human rights and democracy.
In September 2023 our Communication and Information Commissioner, Vanisa Dhiru, spoke at the UNA-NZ Conference Advancing Agenda 2030.
The conference explored what actions need to be taken to advance the 2030 Agenda to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Highlights included a keynote address by Dr Sir Ashley Bloomfield and a number of panel discussions including The Climate Challenge, Reforming the United Nations and Countering disinformation and rebuilding trust in institutions.
Advancing Agenda 2030 took place on September 28th
which is the UN International Day for Access to Information. The importance of this day was one of the many things that Vanisa spoke on.
Vanisa’s speech touches on UNESCO’s work to help enable human rights and democracy, as well as the work we do here at the NZ National Commission for UNESCO in this space, particularly within our Freedom of Expression priority area.
