Sharing NZ Research at One Ocean Science Congress

Participation by New Zealand scientists in the One Ocean Science Congress in France provided valuable opportunities to share research, build networks and gain international insights.

One Ocean Science Congress

We supported Awetea Consulting to present their Tāngaroa Ararau – Reimagining Marine Governance in Aotearoa New Zealand research at the One Ocean Science Congress, which was part of the UN Ocean Science Conference (UNOC) held in Nice, France in June 2025.

The research was presented during Poster Sessions, providing opportunities to connect with global researchers and identify future collaborative opportunities.

The research was also presented during the Blue Economy Forum highlighting pathways for iwi and hapū to strengthen relationships with their rohe moana and engage in emerging blue economy initiatives, as well as during the Indigenous Dialogue Session at UNOC.

Overall, these engagements strengthened local and international networks, built knowledge to inform aspirations for Tūranganui a Kiwa, and reinforced the importance of collaboration to prioritise ocean health.
