Facilitating connection and inspiring ocean advocacy within the community, was at the heart of Manta Watch’s Aotearoa New Zealand Film Tour.
Manta Watch (MWNZ) initially toured their short film ‘Manta Watch – Discovering Aotearoa’s Gentle Giants’ around Auckland, the Hauraki Gulf Islands and the Coromandel (key manta hotspots).
Manta rays are majestic ocean wonders and have been called the ‘gateway drug’ for marine conservation.
Manta Watch Aotearoa New Zealand is a small, nationally focused charity that combines dedicated research and citizen science to learn more about Aotearoa's oceanic manta ray population.
Our grant funding enabled MWNZ to extend the film’s reach in 2024 to include other important manta areas including Whakatane, Taranaki, Kerikeri and Wellington.
The screenings – which included a 30-minute Q&A session – were extremely popular, selling out in all locations.
