UNESCO's headquarters are in Paris, France
UNESCO was established after WWII on the belief that “political and economic arrangements will not produce lasting peace and the only certainty for world security is intellectual and moral solidarity”.
The National Commission supports NZ representation at UNESCO meetings, including its General Conference, an assembly of Member States held every two years, and is sometimes invited to host international UNESCO activities here.
The National Commission shares NZ best practice internationally and works to ensure that international best practice is disseminated here. It also nominates New Zealanders and NZ organisations for UNESCO’s international prizes and programmes.
